چکیده

Posterior sternoclavicular dislocation is a rare traumatic injury that presents a potential risk of injury to mediastinal structures. The diagnosis is fundamentally clinical and treatment is done on an emergency basis. The authors report the clinical case of a young judo athlete with post-traumatic medial epiphyseal fracture-detachment, with posterior displacement (lesion equivalent to posterior sternoclavicular dislocation at pediatric ages). He underwent open reduction and ligament repair by means of a mini-anchor. The radiological and clinical outcome was excellent, and the athlete returned to his sports activity without limitations. We discuss the particular features of this pathological condition, along with the different therapeutic approaches and their complications. © 2013 Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia. Posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint and epiphyseal disruption of the medial clavicle with posterior displacement in sports participants.

We retrospectively analysed the clinical results of 30 patients with injuries of the sternoclavicular joint at a minimum of 12 months' follow-up. A closed reduction was attempted in 14 cases. It was successful in only five of ten dislocations, and failed in all four epiphyseal disruptions. A total of 25 patients underwent surgical reduction, in 18 cases in conjunction with a stabilisation proce...

Posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint

Posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint is a rare but serious and life-threatening injury. Case reports describing injury to mediastinal structures including the trachea, esophagus, and the great vessels from posterior displacement of the medial clavicle (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) have been discussed in the literature. It is important that radiologists are aware of the limitation of plain r...

Posterior sternoclavicular dislocation presenting with upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis.

Posterior sternoclavicular dislocation is an uncommon injury and often remains initially undiagnosed due to variable clinical presentation and inadequate visualization of the joint on plain radiographs. It is frequently associated with serious and life-threatening injuries involving the trachea, esophagus, or great vessels. A 15-year-old boy was knocked to the ground during wrestling and landed...
